Over here I’m all about keeping it authentic, that means that what comes out of me is real and what goes in, mentally, physically and emotionally is real. Maybe I’m finally an adult since gone are the days when my only concern was spending the least amount of money on food or products. Quality is everything, now don’t get me wrong, I’m still thinking about my money but what’s the point of having all your coins when your health is failing?

My first step was switching to an 80% meat-free diet. I eat what feels right for my body and my body likes it when I eat meat about once a week; I’m more of a seafood girl. Every meal is loaded up on greens and fruits and whole grains.
I am slowly but surely switching things over to more natural and readable ingredients. Aluminum is not a hard word to read but its hard on our bodies and not enough people are talking about this!
That is why I have switched over to aluminum free deodorant and I urge you guys to do some research.
I picked up Schmidt’s Natural’s Lavender + Sage Deodorant, at my local CVS but you can also find it on Amazon. Yes, it is slightly more expensive than my normal pick but I think the benefits are worth the extra $ 2.
DEODORANT: This natural formula offers long-lasting protection against odor and wetness. Ingredients:
LAVENDER + SAGE DEODORANT:Maranta Arundinacea (Arrowroot) Powder, Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (Fractionated Coconut Oil), Lavandula (Lavender) Essential Oil, Salvia Sclarea (Clary Sage) Essential Oil, Sambucus Nigra Fruit Extract (PhytoCide Elderberry OS).
What I love about it is that it was easily accessible at my local drug store, I can read right on the cap
*no aluminum
*no propylene glycol
*no artificial fragrance
Now, in my new found adulthood, I have started paying attention to the warnings and doing my own research. Did you know what is lurking in regular antiperspirants? Well, you will now!
Aluminum compounds, research has found it’s linked to the issues below:
Breast Cancer– Aluminum has been known to absorb into the skin in breast tissue, causing changes in estrogen receptors of breast cells, increasing the risk of cancer
Alzheimer’s Disease
Dementia
Bone Disorders
Kidney Problems
Propylene Glycol can damage the nervous system
Fragrance, this one is a doozy, more than 95 percent of the chemicals in synthetic fragrances are derived from petrochemicals aka known toxins that are capable of causing and increasing the risk of cancer, birth defects, nervous system disorders. By hiding these chemicals under the word “fragrance” consumers have no idea what they are really putting onto and eventually into their body.
Triple san is a pesticide
Paragon is a hormone disrupter
DEA & TEA are banned in Europe but not the USA… learn more HERE on banned chemicals allowed in the USA
Now for the good stuff, I love the natural ingredients and the fact that it works, as my first stab at natural deodorant, I would call this a win. I gave this a good month of Boston Summer heat and humidity before writing my review.
Smell- I did not smell of BO not once, I can not say the same for my other antiperspirants that would leave me second guessing if I even applied deodorant before leaving the apartment. The scent of lavender is strong but not overpowering. Light floral aromas are pleasant, especially in the summer.
Texture – EW! Its thick, it’s gritty, it’s messy, fix it Jesus!
The texture takes some time to get used to, in the first few days there have been times that it feels like there was goop under my armpits. What I did to fix this was following the directions I allow the stick to soften on your skin before applying.
Wetness- or lack of wetness, I was pleasantly surprised that I was not soaking through my T-shirts since this is without antiperspirant. It definitely holds up to its side of the bargain in this department. I do recall the first week or so there was more wetness under my armpits than I was used to or would like. Not going to lie, I was tempted to go back to my normal antiperspirant because…sweat stains ain’t cute. I’m glad I stuck with it because for whatever reason ( not the lack of heat) sweat stains have not been a problem since the first week.
This is NOT an antiperspirant, since contrary to what we have been conditioned to believe. Sweating is not bad. Sweating allows our body to release toxins. What Schmidt’s Natural’s Lavender + Sage Deodorant does is reduce wetness without clogging your pores with harmful chemicals that will seep into your bloodstream. Antiperspirants work by preventing perspiration from occurring. Deodorants allow perspiration but block odor. Deodorants accomplish this by killing the bacteria that cause odor. From a purely natural standpoint, it makes more sense for us to use deodorants, as it gives us all the benefits and none of the harm.
Overall, I would buy again and I am very interested in seeing how the other natural deodorants brands treat me. Now that I know it works there is no going back for me.
Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for other brands of natural deodorant or skincare, have you tried any of the linked ones below?
With Love,
Dani
Well crap I need to switch!
