No cleaning products required
Spring has come and gone and while Summer is not officially over its already September so it might as well be. We are already thinking about Pumpkin Spice, apple picking, and flannels. With a new season comes new opportunities for renewal, fresh starts, and new beginnings. We all know that Spring is a great time to clear out the junk in your home but Fall can be great for clearing out the mental clutter. I’m talking about the stuff that takes up too much space and energy in your brain. In the words of Maria Kondo if it doesn’t spark joy then get rid of it!

Unsubscribe from the B.S
This time I am talking about those annoying emails flooding your inbox. I know I use to wake up to 63 emails by 8 am and only 5 of them would be something that I would want to open and read. Instead of just deleting them knowing that they will be back…they always come back, dedicate a week to opening up those emails and unsubscribing to each and every email, newsletter, promo and creepy Russian dating site that comes your way. This can be done on your morning and evening commute, while waiting for the oven to pre-heat or when your feeling especially ruthless. If its something that doesn’t interest you then get rid of it!

Clear out your phone contacts
If you haven’t spoken to that person in the last five years its highly unlikely that you will need to send them a text for a coffee date. Old college party friends, that one guy you meet up with for a drink back in 2014, and old co-workers that you didn’t even want to talk to while sharing the same office… delete, delete and delete! Its only messing with your Facebook friend suggestions and using up memory in your phone.

Delete old pictures and videos from your phone
While on the topic of storage sucking things on our phone, I know that I am not the only one that gets threats from Apple ” your iCloud storage is full” like chill! Does Apple have a point? Yes, I don’t need three thousand pictures in my camera roll when only 45% of them are ever going to see the light of day. Those blurry, unflattering, bad lighting pictures can go. Along with the 99 selfies in the same exact pose that got rejected because you only liked one of them. Delete!

Social Media slim down
Do not follow people who bring negativity or bad vibes to your timeline. Do not follow people who if you saw them walking your way you would pretend to answer your phone to avoid communicating with them. If you are new to the journey of authenticity, do not follow people who make you feel bad about your choices, your lifestyle or your progress.

Forgive yourself
It’s a new season, leaves are changing, apple picking season is approaching. Let go of your mental baggage. Forgiving yourself is an act of self-care. For anything that’s been weighing heavy on your mind or has been left uncompleted let it go. In my case, I didn’t meet my January fitness resolution? I have forgiven myself and will start again. The weather is still nice enough to incorporate outdoor actives such as walking and hikes. Acknowledge that you did the best that you could at that time and move on.
Use this time to clean up your space, your mind, and your goals. New season who dis?
What are some other great mental decluttering tips?
